We are a non governmental organisation seeking to end the lowest form of hunger and poverty by empowering rural and urban slum women in Nigeria with free vocational skills in dress making, catering, make up artistry, soap production, jewelry making and computer technology, entrepreneurship training and access to finance.
Our organisation invests in local women to help them acquire economic survival skills. We support them with tools and resources to start up small businesses to help ease the conflict between work and family responsibilities - one of the many reasons for women's economic inequality and domestic violence.
In line with the United Nations sustainable development goals, we are championing the following goals.
Goal 1: Ending poverty in all its forms everywhere.
Goal 2: Ending Hunger
Goal 3: Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Goal 4: achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls
Goal 5: promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
Selfworth Organization For Women Development seeks to provide low income women with the tools needed to work themselves out of poverty.
We believe that the best way to accomplish our goal on a global scale is through the development of economic skills.
We have impacted and empowered over five thousand women in different communities in Nigeria with skills and tools to succeed in their businesses.
Most of the women we focus on are poor, majority of them are widows and the bread winners of their families.
We believe that most rural/urban poor women lack skills to succeed because they lack access to proper training and the required finance to fund their business, they are unable to access finance because of barriers like collateral, bank account, transaction history, illiteracy, etc.
We provide the needed succor by breaking the barriers and challenges they would experience in their quest to secure loans from commercial banks.
The loans we make available to them is specifically targeted for the purchase of their own sewing machines, ovens, make up sets, jewelry making items, chemicals for making soap as well as other equipment they need to enable them start up their businesses immediately after their training thereby breaking barriers and generational cycles of poverty.
We are on a mission to eradicate poverty and provide women with employment and decent jobs.
Our major objective is to bridge the gap by offering free top notch training in different trade skills to local women in undeserved communities who cannot afford the exorbitant fees charged at other high end training facilities .
